Medicare supplement plans help Seniors cover the "gaps" in Original Medicare. Also referred to as Medigap, there are 12 standardized plans to choose from. Each plan has a letter (A-L) and each category must offer specific benefits as defined by The Center For Medicare And Medicaid Services and the Department of Insurance.

The changes to Medicare Supplement come as a result of HR 6331, the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA, passed on July 9, 2008), which authorized implementation of the NAIC's proposed Medigap modernization changes, which were approved by the NAIC Plenary in March 2007.
